TLPI will assist NCAI in bringing Technical Assistance materials which supplement the training areas identified by Gila River Indian Community (GRIC). In addition to the topics the tribe identifies, we will prepare materials concerning including non-Indians in Jury Pools, which GRIC mentioned was a challenge.
On April 4, we will meet with members of the GRIC team to talk in person about their Violence Against Women Reauthorization Act of 2013 Special Domestic Violence Criminal Jurisdiction (VAWA SDVCJ) implementation timeline and anticipated challenges. Additionally, we will attend the Tribal Council meeting scheduled for that day wherein Council will be considering adoption of VAWA SDVCJ through revisions to the Criminal Code. Depending on availability, we will be on the agenda for that meeting answer any questions that Council has about SDVCJ.
We will schedule an exit meeting 1 month after the site visit to follow up with GRIC on the progress since the site visit and ongoing TA needs as identified.
