The Tucson, AZ Police department requested travel support for representatives from Tucson PD to participate in a peer-to-peer site visit with the New Orleans, LA Police Department. BJA NTTAC provided travel support to 3 representatives from the Tucson PD to participate in a peer-to-peer site visit from April 10 - 12 ,2018 in New Orleans, Louisiana.
The Tucson, Arizona Police Department (PD) requested technical assistance through BJA NTTAC with an ongoing CompStat development project. The Tucson PD is struggling with limited analytical capabilities in terms of both educated, trained professional staff and in software, hardware, and technical limitations. They are developing a plan for a CompStat 2.0 model that incorporates metrics related to external effectiveness (e.g., crime data, quality of life issues, traffic safety, community feedback), internal effectiveness (e.g., staffing, performance, training & development, employee wellness) and legitimacy and transparency (e.g., use of force, complaints and allegations, procedural justice), and that will eventually feature predictive analytical capabilities. In addition to the technical assistance BJA NTTAC is providing, the Tucson PD has requested funding support for a peer-to-peer site visit to observe a well-established crime analysis division to understand their staffing structure, organization model, standard operating procedures, and technical capabilities.
