CJI will assist Kentucky in developing various internal policy options in the broad categories of Release/Pretrial, Supervision, and Sentencing in task force subgroups. The recommendations from the Work Group will be used to draft legislation.

The first Data Drivers Presentation was presented to the full work group on September 20th.
The second Data Drivers Presentation was presented to the full work group on October 11th.
This subgroup, consisting of six members of the work group force, met three times between October and mid-November to examine relevant findings from quantitative analysis of corrections data and qualitative system assessment to discuss possible policy options that would protect public safety, hold offenders accountable, and control corrections spending. Recommendations submitted to the work group force include: ; expanding earned compliance credits program; expanding graduated sanctions to respond to supervision violations; streamlining revocation hearings; and expanding the use of alternatives to incarceration for nonpayment of financial obligations and other mechanisms to ensure that repayment of fines and fees are not a barrier to successful reentry
This subgroup, consisting of six members of the full work group, met three times between October and mid-November to examine relevant findings from quantitative analysis of corrections data and qualitative system assessment to discuss possible policy options that would protect public safety, hold offenders accountable, and control corrections spending. Recommendations submitted to the full task force include: establishing an administrative parole process; introducing geriatric parole; expanding medical parole; streamlining the parole revocation process; expanding home incarceration program eligibility; expanding credit options for misdemeanor offenders; and improving pretrial release.
This subgroup, consisting of six members of the full work group, met three times between October and mid-November to examine relevant findings from quantitative analysis of corrections data and qualitative system assessment to discuss possible policy options that would protect public safety, hold offenders accountable, and control corrections spending. Recommendations submitted to the full task force include: modifying drug sentencing; modifying the theft threshold; expanding and utilizing alternatives to incarceration; modifying persistent felony offender sentence enhancements; and limiting length of incarceration for parole and probation revocations.
