SAKI TTA contacted Christina to let her know that WV would receive a 2018 IAS-SART training. And, asked Christina for her preference on scheduling the IAS-SART from the list of dates the SMEs are available. The site coordinator chose May 10th and 11th, so SAKI TTA sent her the next steps document so she could find a location. Update- 12/6/2017- The site coordinator confirmed that she had a potential reservation. She is planning to discuss conference approval soon.
IAS Training for 5/9-5/10 interferes with Alaska's state conference. A substitute trainer is needed for Jim on the IAS Training.
On Tuesday, December 19th, SAKI called the WV site coordinator to tell her that there was an issue with the May dates due to a Statewide Conference in Alaska that only happens once a year. SAKI sent additional available dates for the IAS team on December 21st. The site coordinator will confirm which date works best. Then, SAKI TTA and WV will work on Conference Approval.
WV was understanding about the Alaska Statewide event. SAKI stated that they would confirm that the next round of dates listed for the IAS-SART trainers still worked for everyone.
Paige alerted WV that the IAS-SART Training had been fully approved through the conference reporting process.
Paige and Christina emailed about travel logistics for the SAKI TTA team. Christina has a block of rooms at a hotel in Fairmont. She also said that she would help with local travel to and from the Fairmont Airport if necessary.
Paige to encourage all the SMEs to look for air travel as soon as possible due to the small airports close to the event. SMEs will stay at the hotel with the room block.
Linda Ledray worked with Christinal Lipscomb on the final logistics for the WV IAS-SART training, and the event was held on July 20-21. Participants were very happy.
The goal of the program is to foster a victim centered approach and develop an understanding of the roles and role limitations of the all SART members through an interactive format. Working as a team on a sexual assault case, SART members learn best practices for how SANE's, law enforcement officers, prosecutors and advocates deal with cold case DNA hits, the reluctant witness and make tough decisions about what evidence to collect and what evidence is admissible. They follow the crime from the initial report through medical and crime scene evidence collection to the trial with all team members participating in each phase.
"This is a great training Im learning so much" (two advocates sitting quietly at the back table whom I approached because they had been so quiet the first day)
"Good information and practice. Info on SANE exam and DNA lab excellent information Everyone was very knowledgeable about their area presented" (Det 6 yrs)
Paige emailed Christina to see if she was pleased with the event, and if she had any additional evaluation information.
From Christina: The training was great and people were very engaged. We had 43 total attendees and yes, we did our own evaluation. The feedback was wonderful! They really liked this style of training and the comments people made to me were a testament to what a great job the team does and how beneficial this training is.
