The West Virginia Division of Corrections (DOC) requested technical assistance to address a range of current challenges, including a rising prison population, limited resources, staffing shortages, facilities considerations, institutional gang and drug activity, and inmate-on-inmate violence. BJA NTTAC is currently still identifying potential TA providers to fulfill this request, which will be transferred to the Option Year 1 (OY1) contract.

LISC provides BCJI sites with an opportunity to access small grants for two purposes. Peer Learning Small Grants fund travel by BCJI leaders to visit other sites in the BCJI network, or to visit sites of other initiatives (like VRN or SPI) to aid consideration of evidence-informed practices. LISC awarded the Denver BCJI site a peer learning grant to cover travel for members of the Denver Police Department to attend the most recent Smart Policing Institute (SPI) Collaboration workshop in Kansas City.

In this webinar, officials from the U.S. Department of Justice’s Bureau of Justice Assistance explained the grant program and application process. These grants will provide up to $1,000,000 for a 36-month project period to nonprofit organizations (including tribal nonprofit organizations) with a documented history of administering comprehensive, evidence-based reentry services. The goal of this program is to promote more effective reentry for formerly incarcerated individuals through the utilization of comprehensive, evidence-based wraparound reentry plans.
