On May 4, NCVC hosted a webinar focused on domestic violence issues and concerns during the COVID-19 pandemic. Specific topics included viable solutions for those at the federal level to reach out and connect with state and local service providers, successful strategies Safe Horizon and other service providers have implemented to combat this issue, and recommendations for law enforcement responses through strategies aimed at innovative methods for court access, shelter, safety plans, and increased use of technology.

On March 9, NCVC hosted a webinar focused on traumatic victimization and police interview and investigation techniques to improve domestic violence and sexual assault case outcomes. Speakers included Dr. Justin Ramsdell, a law enforcement trainer and respected forensic psychologist from George Mason University, and Ret. Det. Justin Boardman of Valley City (Utah) Police Department. The webinar received positive feedback as to speakers and content; it also received over 200 attendees. Nine of nine feedback survey respondents rated their satisfaction with the webinar overall as positive.

In response to a TTA request, NCVC began planning a virtual district-wide training for FL-S that will focus on trauma-informed investigation strategies for police and prosecutors in domestic violence cases. NCVC has confirmed training speakers and has submitted a training proposal to FL-S, which is currently being reviewed. NCVC expects to conduct this full-day, virtual training in September or October.

Description: The PSN TTA team is hosting a virtual training for the AL-N PSN team focused on
improving trauma-informed justice system responses and the intersection of firearms and domestic
violence (DV) in Jefferson County. This training will be led by the National Center for Victims of Crime and
the CNA Institute for Public Research.
This training will develop attendees’:
1. understanding of the importance of interagency partnerships for successful prosecution of DV
cases, including the value of partnerships between federal and local agencies;

Ariel Ervin, Co-manager on the Law Enforcement Victim Specialist Project requested assistance with developing a Human Trafficking pamphlet for their sites to personalize and handout to victims. Quauhtli Olivieri Herra and Katie Rossomondo provided support in development by reviewing and modifying the handout.

Vicarious trauma training for GA-N credible messengers, which is a program developed through GA-N's PSN strategy. A follow-up "train the trainer" training will be conducted virtually in March 2020 focusing on self care, team building, boundaries. A third training (date and method of delivery TBD) will be delivered on anger replacement and cognitive behavioral therapy.
