This forum will focus on how the implementation of law enforcement-based victim services can build trust within your community. Explore innovative strategies, policies that inform practice, and key considerations. This training will afford participants the opportunity to gain an understanding of the challenges faced by victims of violent crime and explore evidence-based approaches to enhance support services.

As first responders, police officers and their behavioral health partners regularly encounter individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD). Education and collaborative partnerships can enhance the safety and effectiveness of these encounters and help to build community trust. This session will focus on what officers and crisis response teams need to know about IDD and how they can form effective community partnerships with IDD advocates and organizations.

This session will examine how law enforcement can gain a deeper understanding of the complexities of veteran mental health and how collaborative efforts can improve responses. Representatives from the Veteran’s Health Administration will provide webinar participants with an overview of their organization’s mission, the resources they can provide, and how law enforcement involvement with veteran’s can present unique challenges and play a critical role in ensuring veterans receive the help they need during crises.

In the final session of this community of practice, participants will understand the importance of sharing outcomes with key stakeholders and discuss strategies to share those outcomes to support program sustainability. Participants will also learn how to tailor evaluation/outcomes to specific audiences by sharing key findings, executive summaries and short briefs highlighting relevant data.
