As part of the Community Trust Initiative (CTI) project, the IACP organized a media training program focusing on the unique challenges faced by first-line supervisors and command staff. Laura McElroy, a highly respected authority in media relations, guided participants through advanced techniques and strategies for managing media interactions and public statements. Participants learned about how to confidently and effectively engage with media representatives, handling inquiries with poise and clarity.

The Boston (MA) Police Department requested a connection be made between them and the Retail Industry Leaders Association (RILA), an organization that the IACP has partnered with. The goal of this connection is to gain insight from RILA on Boston PD's Safe Shopping Initiative, an initiative created by Boston PD, Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office, and several private sector partners within the City of Boston to address various critical concerns related to safety and security in retail environments.

Met with one member of the state team since the POC is on maternity leave and we heard from subgrantees during their all-site convening in October. Heard updates about FY21 sites which are floating on their own and wrapping up from a data perspective. Also heard updates about FY23 sites, which are making significant progress.Discussed spenddown ideas. No TTA needs at this time

The objective of this project are two-fold: (1) to create a pilot program to establish a rigorous academic-based training model that can be used nationwide for the rapid analysis of suspected illicit drugs seized in the field and (2) to provide training to law enforcement officers on methods to conduct rapid testing on suspected drugs encountered in the field; how to properly collect, document, and store evidence; and risk mitigation strategies focused on officer safety.
