Gila River is a FY23 Adult Treatment Court - Tribal Healing to Wellness Court grantee. Gila River submitted a TTA request after identifying legal screening and participant enrollment challenges. Gila River's Rachel Hernandez and Court Administrator Joanne Perry would like to meet internally to gather feedback on TTA needs, to include information on what other THWCs are doing and the benefit of Wellness Courts for a tribal community. The proposed training plan is for a 1.5-2-day onsite training scheduled for February 21-22, 2024. TLPI Consultant Julie Wilkens will join Ms.

The Chickasaw Nation is a FY23 Adult Treatment Court - Tribal Healing to Wellness Court grantee. Their grant planning and implementation project will be to re-implement their THWC which was recently revitalized (May 2023). Wellness Court Specialist/TA Coach Kristina Pacheco and Skadden Fellow/TA Coach Grace Carson are guiding through meeting the foundational training requirement since they completed All Rise's Foundation Training in the Summer 2022. Technical assistance will also include document review by Wellness Court Specialist Alyssa Harrold and Ms. Pacheco.

Walker River Paiute Tribe is a FY22 CTAS Purpose Area 3 - Tribal Healing to Wellness Court Grantee and has agreed to participate as a Sister Court with TLPI, paired with LTBB and Tulalip. This reporting period included a technical assistance request for: extensive planning and training needs; community needs assessment; setting tribal staff roles and expectations; policy development; and advising on award modification possibilities to meet tribal needs.

During this reporting period, TLPI continued to track technical assistance data and training performance measures. Technical Assistance Request Forms are utilized to track new TA requests, Intake Forms are utilized to gather and track Wellness Court basic information and current programmatic needs. Training and technical assistance requests and fulfillment, along with addition of follow up information, is entered into TLPI's database, Civicore, so that training and technical assistance is documented.

Pima County's Superior Court Judge Charles Pyle contacted the Tribal Law and Policy Insitute for assistance in potentially starting a Wellbriety Court, as a result of a presentation by Wellness Court Specialist Kristina Pacheco at the 2023 Arizona Association of Drug Court Professional Conference. Judge Pyle asked for information to present to the Pima County Superior Court to address the racial disparities with the Tohono Odom and Pascua Yaqui tribes.

The Treatment Court Institute (TCI) and Justice for Vets (JFV), divisions of All Rise, will lead the training and technical assistance (TTA) for these BJA awards. TTA can range from telephone, email, or virtual assistance to onsite visits by trained consultants and is beneficial for new and established programs in such areas as training new team members, program and document review, team-building, and strategic planning.

Red Lake Nation is a FY22 Adult Treatment Court - Tribal Healing to Wellness Court Grantee.
On September 8, 2023, Red Lake Associate Judge, Leah Kingbird, requested technical assistance on the grant budget as a result of Red Lake's awarded budget being less than the grant request. Wellness Court Specialist Angie Juárez-Monger met with Judge Kingbird on September 29 to provide assistance. Budget clearance was received November 1, 2023. As a grantee, training and technical assistance will continue to be offered to Red Lake Nation.

On October 2, 2023, THWC Coordinator Diana Bonnaha requested assistance with obtaining the LS-CMI assessment. Wellness Court Specialist Alyssa Harrold has extensive experience with the LS-CMI tool and provided guidance to Ms. Bonnaha on completing online training for the assessment, followed by the ability to purchase the validated assessment. Grantee technical assistance will continue next reporting period.
