The Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA) released the Strategies for Policing Innovation (SPI) 2020 Competitive Grant Solicitation. Catherine McNamee, BJA Senior Policy Advisor, presented a webinar on Tuesday, March 31, 2020 at 2PM ET to provide an overview of the SPI and review the 2020 solicitation guidelines. Ms. McNamee provided a detailed explanation of the application requirements and answered specific questions.

The Salisbury, NC SPI site requests TTA on development and implementation of their real-time crime center. BJA approved virtual peer exchanges with fellow SPI sites and leading agencies on this topic. Jefferson County, AL; New Orleans, LA; St. Louis, MO; and Memphis, TN all plan to consult with the site on operations, policies, and capabilities needed for a RTCC. Salisbury will speak with command staff, crime analysts, and officers assigned to the centers to comprehensively understand the issues.

On January 27, 2020, the SPI TTA team hosted SPI subject matter experts to kick off a new award period for SPI TTA. In preparation for welcoming new SPI sites, BJA and the SPI TTA team gathered in January 2020 to reflect on the progress, challenges, and opportunities of SPI TTA. New SMEs discussed how they plan to support new FY 2019 sites based on their experiences in the field, and veteran SMEs provided their strategies for engaging with sites, helping them achieve success, and reporting on progress and activities.
