The Kansas City Police Department (KCPD) hosted a group peer exchange for sites to learn about its use of risk-terrain modeling as an analytical tool. Attendees were provided with an overview and presentation of risk-terrain modeling including the development and use of the program at the KCPD. The attendees also participated in group exercises, and the day concluded with a roundtable discussion by KCPD field assets on their use of risk-terrain modeling. The exchange consisted of five attendees from five different PSP sites.

The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department hosted a group peer exchange for 14 attendees from 7 agencies to learn about its CGIC. The agenda for the exchange included the history of the Indianapolis CGIC; budgeting, staffing, and technology; the crime gun task force; and success stories and demonstrations. The collaboration among lab services, analysts, officers, ATF, and community partners, and the significant state funding support, was emphasized as a key strength in Indianapolis’s strategy for handling crime gun intelligence.

The Rochester, New York, Police Department (RPD) and the Chattanooga, Tennessee, Police Department (CPD) sent seven representatives to meet with the Denver Police Department (DPD) Firearm Assault Shoot Team (FAST). FAST provided an in-depth presentation on the concept, the training process for detectives, the models and protocols, and lessons learned. The RPD and CPD then met with the CGIC Unit, Digital Evidence Team, and NIBIN team.

The peer visit to Boston was coordinated by Mr. Isaac Yablo, who is the violence prevention coordinator for the Boston Mayor’s Office. Participants learned about the history of the “Boston Miracle” and how the community came together to impact violent crime. The 22 peer exchange participants from 9 agencies heard from Boston Police Department senior command and line-level officers in addition to the Boys and Girls Club, religious partners, and violence interrupters. Key presenters included Director Kevan Barton and Ms.

The Oklahoma City Police Department (OCPD) hosted three personnel from the Greensboro Police Department (GPD) to learn about its drone program. The group was given an overview of the background on the newness of the drone program and how it transitioned from older technology in the traffic unit to a patrol-focused and -controlled program with 16 Skydio drones. The OCPD demonstrated the dashboard it uses through Skydio, showing data on the flights.

Three personnel from the Washington, DC, Metropolitan Police Department (DC Metro) engaged in a peer exchange to the Miami Police Department (MPD) to learn about and tour the MPD’s Real Time Crime Center (RTCC) and Crime Gun Intelligence Center (CGIC) and attend a CompStat meeting. DC Metro had a robust discussion with the Miami chief and command staff detailing the progress of the DC project and the challenges the MPD faced during its establishment of the center.

NRTAC member Joseph Milek was to attend the 2024 LeadsOnline Conference in Kansas City, MO. As part of the NRTAC’s participation, Joseph was to attend the conference events to network with current local CGIC grantees and learn about existing violent crime reduction strategies initiatives to support violent crime reduction across the United States. Unfortunately, due to an unforeseen scheduling conflict, Joseph wasn't able to attend the conference.

The NRTAC staff hosted a virtual meeting over Zoom to deliver the CGIC recommendations to the Jefferson County, Colorado, CGIC. Upon delivery of the recommendations, the Jefferson County CGIC team was prepared to discuss implementation plans for each recommendation.
