The Louisville Metro Police Department (PD) recently incurred a consent decree and is building capacity to respond to and meet the expectations of that decree. In order to provide a deeper understanding of consent decree processes, the Seattle PD hosted the Louisville Metro PD for an overview of its efforts and subsequent organizational changes made during its consent decree process.

The UC team presented findings from the national crisis response survey at the 2022 Annual Meeting of the American Society of Criminology in Atlanta, GA. This presentation discussed the findings from a national survey of major city and major county law enforcement agencies designed to examine existing training, programs, and partnerships to support crisis response. Variation in crisis response across agencies was discussed and future directions for police involvement in crisis response was considered.

The National Public Safety Partnership (PSP) and the Institute for Intergovernmental Research hosted a training and technical assistance session for the analysts at the Phoenix Police Department (PD) to build capacity in the production of social network analysis (SNA). In-depth presentations were made to senior Phoenix PD commanders, in addition to direct hands-on training with eight of Phoenix’s crime analysis staff. This event was also the second SNA workshop stemming out of an SNA challenge that was issued to the same group in Cleveland, Ohio, in May 2023.

The Rochester, New York; Sacramento, California; and Washington, DC, Metro Police Departments were interested in observing and learning from a high-functioning PIO. The Phoenix PIO provided the visiting agencies an opportunity to see its organizational structure, operations, and video production capacities. Highlights of the visit included exposure to Phoenix’s Professional Staff Command structure and Critical Incident Force media releases.
