The Basic Tribal Probation Academy (TPA) is a comprehensive training academy that provides an opportunity for new and experienced probation officers to obtain up-to-date information and critical skills needed for effective case management, officer safety, and career development. TPA training provides tribal probation officers with current information on topics relevant to their work in the field.

The Gila River Family Healing to Wellness Court reached out to the Tribal Law and Policy Institute requesting an onsite technical assistance visit to observe their court hearings, policies and procedures, and general operations, and to make recommendations for general improvement.

The Shoshone-Paiute Tribes Healing to Wellness Court/Drug Court reached out to the Tribal Law and Policy Institute requesting guidance and technical assistance in how to include their Healing to Wellness Program mission into their Tribes' Law and Order Code. Their court was recently funded by the Department of Justice's Bureau of Justice Assistance.

Demonstration site coaches provide guidance on effective strategies to meet the goals and objectives proposed in the sites' grant applications. The coaches provide the grantees with a direct link to the National PREA Resource Center.

As RSAT funding has shrunk, there are even less resources for even the most evidence-based, well run RSAT programs in prisons and jails. Therefore, it is in their interest to collaborate with other BJA funded programs where possible to mutually enhance their services. The Center for Court Innovation is the training/technical assistance provider for drug courts, whose services often dovetail with those of RSAT programs.

ONDCP Deputy Director Leary and Dr. Campopiano will speak about the Obama Administration’s 21st Century approach to drug policy regarding opioid use disorders and overdose. With the alarming uptick in opioid overdose deaths and the high rate of overdose deaths among those reentering the community, this webinar will address the effect opioids have on the brain, the different types of medication assisted treatment (MAT), and the importance of having a comprehensive approach to opioid use disorders which includes MAT, overdose prevention, and continuity of care.
