A technical assistance team was established to assess FCPD on their policies and processes related to use of force accountability. The assessment process consisted of compiling findings from a review of relevant research and resources, collecting and reviewing relevant FCFD policies, SOPs, and other written documentation, interviewing key personnel from across the agency, and observing key meetings and mock meetings.

The Seattle City Auditor requested TTA from PERF specific to Roadmap step #2 – Identifying the key people and places driving the violence. Specifically, the Seattle City Council was trying to understand common patterns relative to the people and places driving gun violence. Seattle was also interested in learning what models were used in other jurisdictions to educate community leaders about the violence in their communities.

CJI’s subrecipient, Southern University Center for Social Research (SUCSR), is collecting focus group data from participants and staff. Southern University conducted 15 staff interviews with a total of 63 participants. The group carried out 16 focus groups with program participants and 10 focus groups with community members. Southern University reports that all interviews have been transcribed, and the initial round of coding is nearly complete for the CIG interviews. In addition, Southern University reports that the initial code development process is underway for the RRC interviews.

Ms. Kristine Hamann from the NRTAC team has been invited to participate in a meeting hosted by the Connecticut Office of the State Attorney General. The meeting will be attended by prosecutors throughout the State of Connecticut. The purpose of Ms. Hamann’s participation in the meeting is to highlight the role prosecutors must assume to appropriately support the various BJA-funded CGICs in Connecticut. Additionally, Ms. Hamann will discuss the prosecutor training curriculum developed by the NRTAC and help coordinate its delivery to prosecutors in the State of Connecticut.

At BJA’s request, Alan Hughes and Sarah Vanselow from the NRTAC team attended BJA’s Violent Crime Reduction Summit in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Additionally, NPI set up an exhibition booth which highlighted the work of NRTAC and available resources to attending agencies.

BJA requested the presence and participation of the NRTAC team at the IACP 2024 Annual Conference held from October 19-22 in Boston, Massachusetts. This four-day event featured training, networking opportunities, and educational workshops on various topics important to law enforcement and the work of NRTAC. The NRTAC was invited to participate in a BJA TTA roundtable on the fourth day. Mr. Alan Hughes from the National Policing Institute (NPI) represented the NRTAC in the roundtable, which highlighted the various TTA resources NTTAC can provide to agencies throughout the country.
