Healing Conversations is a transformative and vital series, where the power of empathy and emotional support converge with the pursuit of justice. Guided by a licensed therapist, this unique program has been thoughtfully designed to bolster the efforts of the Emmett Till Cold Case Investigations and Prosecution Program grantees. At the heart of "Healing Conversations" lies the recognition that unresolved trauma and collective pain continue to reverberate through generations affected by historical injustices.

This discussion explores the essential conflict resolution techniques to help navigate emotionally charged and highly sensitive topics effectively. As a group, we will discuss practical strategies to overcome emotional and psychological barriers, to improve collaboration on sensitive topics, with the goal of fostering cooperation and mutual understanding.

This conversation is foundational to the very tough work of having conversations that can resurface trauma and mistrust. We will focus on developing awareness of our triggers, how our reactions influence conversations, and how to create safe spaces that create trust and reduce harm.

This forum will focus on how the implementation of law enforcement-based victim services can build trust within your community. Explore innovative strategies, policies that inform practice, and key considerations. This training will afford participants the opportunity to gain an understanding of the challenges faced by victims of violent crime and explore evidence-based approaches to enhance support services.

IIR reached out to Brad about making a connection with Milwaukee who is implementing a rapid drug testing surveillance program. They are aware of our work with Marion county and would like to coordinate a time to connect and walk us through their questions.

State would like recommendations for hiring and retaining peers. There are challenges with locating them and retaining them for programs.

State would like recommendations for how to locate detox placements. Currently, shortage of placements is impacting participants.

September community of practice call was focused on sustainability.

Subgrantee, Sanford PD, would like to visit another New England/Northeast agency/PD that is doing similar work. Would like to talk through best practices and learn from others if possible. Need assistance to identify an agency. RTI team met with PAARI representative to discuss ideas and have potential sites and trainings to share with subgrantee in the upcoming check-in call.

The Los Angeles, California, Police Department (LAPD) hosted four personnel from the Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Police Department (PPD) on a very aggressive 3-day peer exchange. Day 1 started with opening remarks from LAPD Chief Dominic Choi and his executive staff followed by an overview of the Community Safety and Partnership Bureau headed by Police Administrator Joel Lopez. The PPD then attended a meeting with the Watts Gang Task Force and concluded with a presentation by ZenCity highlighting community assessments and surveys.
