CSG? Justice Center staff connected with Bill Ward and Jackie Weaknecht of MHJAC to gain insight and feedback into the recommendations for the policy scan. Additionally, CSG Justice Center staff asked about how the team should update the entire MHJAC group during the November 5 meeting. Bill and Jackie shared they will need to conduct a closer read of the latest draft of the report and that discussing during the November 5 meeting should focus on general reactions to the policy recommendations, and not on how MHJAC can or cannot help to advance these recommendations.
CSG Justice Center staff asked about the key informant's observations with respect to people with mental illness in the criminal justice system, diversion from prosecution (for mostly nonviolent and victimless crimes), and law enforcement training. Staff also asked about recommendations written into the PA BH-CJ Policy Scan summary report.
