A recent peer exchange between the Vallejo and Aurora Police Departments highlighted the effectiveness of community-based violence reduction programs. The focus of the exchange was the Aurora Stand Against Violence Everyday (SAVE) program. This grant-funded program leverages community partners as much as possible, working through confrontation and offering a concrete letter of support to those in the community most likely to commit violent crimes, specifically focusing on people between the ages of 18 and 25.

Auditors identified in the peer review or documentation review process and referred to peer mentoring by the PREA Management Office (PMO) receive one-on-one coaching from DOJ-certified PREA auditors who are specially trained as peer mentors. National PREA Resource Center (PRC) staff also serve as mentors. Mentors receive intensive training to provide support and resources to a mentored auditor, as well as ongoing support by oversight staff.

Peer reviewers assess auditors' work utilizing a standardized scoring rubric. The National PREA Resource Center PRC) deploys two reviewers for each peer review to conduct a rigorous examination of all the evidence and documentation relied upon by an auditor. The peer reviewers determine the extent to which the auditor has made accurate compliance findings and followed the methodological requirements defined in the PREA Auditor Handbook. From July to December 2024, the PRC worked on seven (7) peer reviews.

During the July–December 2024 reporting period, IIR responded to 170 inquiries submitted through the website’s “Contact Us” form. These were routine requests, including registration changes and assistance, printing certificates, and lost passwords. IIR also provided technical assistance for inquiries from agencies requesting assistance in understanding and implementing 28 CFR Part 23 requirements. Between July 1 and December 31, 2024, no requests for technical assistance, desk reviews, or clarification of the regulation were received.

During the July–December 2024 reporting period, IIR continued to reference the 28 CFR Part 23 data dashboard to provide weekly updates to BJA, sharing number of users, certificates earned, and training completions by state in real time.
