SCI Greene is a maximum-security prison with a population of 1,683 males. SCI Greene is part of the state DOC’s pioneering MAT program offering oral and injectable buprenorphine (Sublocade). Clinical staff has found transitioning individuals from oral Suboxone to monthly injectable Sublocade effective for both medical and security staff, cost management, with limited adverse and many positive effects for MAT participants.

Across the United States, law enforcement and behavioral health agencies have increasingly begun to incorporate peer support specialists in their responses to people experiencing behavioral health crises in their community. Peer support specialists are individuals with lived experience with mental health conditions, substance use disorders, and/or trauma who are trained, and often certified, to support others with similar experiences in their community.
