The Commission is working with a range of surviving family members, friends and community members to document, investigate and look at possible reparations for the harm caused by racial terror and lynchings in Maryland. It is estimated that over 70% of adults in the U.S. have experienced some type of traumatic event. That is an estimated 223.4 million people. The estimated rates are even higher for African Americans. Historical trauma refers to populations that have been subjected to long-term, collective traumas.
White Earth Nation is working with a nonprofit called Niibi Center with the goal of developing traditional Anishinaabe Law in collaboration with the White Earth courts. Request is for resources for development and training that might have available. Also a request for a person to participate in an upcoming conference they have in achieving this same goal. The initial call was held on March 22, 2024. TLPI identified consultant Korey Wahwassuck to attend the 2nd Annual Anishinaabe Law conference on June 23-24, 2024 at Mahnomen, MN.
