Vera representatives met with participants on-location and explored areas where reentry services (both pre- and post-release) are offered across partners, and possible opportunities for growth or innovation. The visit included a site-specific analysis of employment trends and legal barriers for people with various conviction types. During this visit, Vera led a discussion to identify preliminary strategies and goals to accomplish with stakeholders.

The CJI team was involved in stakeholder engagement and relationship building throughout the state of New Mexico, to build confidence, trust, and participation across the state of New Mexico in beginning the JRI phase 1 process. In July, CJI worked on getting a letter requesting technical assistance from the Governor’s office and on a state assessment. In August, the team continued to work on a state assessment, with the goal of sending the assessment to BJA for approval.

Following the passage of LB50 in June 2023, CJI continued to provide support to stakeholders in Nebraska, primarily through the development of educational materials related to LB50 and the policies included. CJI will not be providing direct implementation technical assistance in Nebraska, as this was not requested by justice partners and state leaders, but CJI has been involved in developing materials to help Nebraska stakeholders with their implementation process.
