Webinar - COVID-19: Managing the Stress of Uncertainty by Taking Care of You

The "COVID-19: Managing the Stress of Uncertainty by Taking Care of You" webinar will help policy makers and all disciplines of correctional staff provide training and technical assistance on effective management of employees and subsequent related stressors that can be caused by pandemic-type occurrences. This live webinar will also be made available on demand on the American Correctional Association's resource center to the public and individuals who were not able to access the live event.

Veterans' Courts: Community of Practice Session

The January 2020 Tribal Community of Practice will focus on justice systems and services dedicated to veterans. Our discussion will revolve around topics relevant to assisting American Indian veterans that include: historical context of warriors within tribal communities, military cultural competency, combat trauma, and resources/practices geared toward restoration. 

Please join the National Criminal Justice Training Center in our dialogue that will encourage idea-sharing to develop well-rounded and informed services for our community members.

Webinar - Innovative Programming for Veterans in the Criminal Justice System

Veterans who are incarcerated have unique needs for services, which often include behavioral health treatment. In response, some correctional facilities have developed programming tailored for veterans in their facilities and have curated partnerships with justice programs in the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs' Veterans Health Administration to better serve them.

Cognitive Interviewing, Communication & Influence (Jul 2019)

This course introduces the art of cognitive interviewing using neuro-linguistic programming techniques. Students learn how to interview suspects, witnesses, and victims more effectively, as well as to observe brain-based deception behavior in both face-to-face and virtual communications. Topics include influence and persuasion with difficult witnesses and suspects, interpretation of body language for deceit and truthfulness, and best practices for testimony and reframing cross-examination.
