Improving crisis response with strategies that divert those with behavioral health needs to appropriate care has become a primary area of focus for both county and city law enforcement. Innovative dispatch strategies include co-responder models with mental health clinicians, mobile crisis teams, Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) training for law enforcement officers or a combination of all three.

This presentation focused on the reduction of jails, emergency rooms, and in-patient hospitals for people who are in behavioral health crisis. Types of mental health-focused programming covered during the virtual event included: crisis call centers, mental health receiving facilities, crisis stabilization units, post-crisis services, and law enforcement-mental health learning sites (which Ayesha provided a presentation on).
