Crawford County is hiring and implementing a CIT officer as the main component of their Rural VCRI award. Chief Garcia of the Espanola Police Department, another Rural VCRI grantee, is a Master Instructor in Crisis Intervention. The Rural VCRI team recommended and connected the two grantees via email to serve as a peer resource. The Rural VCRI team offered to schedule a virtual meeting between the two grantees if they would like.

BJA’s existing CIT training (Effective Community Responses to Mental Health Crisis) is a national curriculum for law enforcement, which provides trainees with a 5-day, 40-hour training that covers 25 modules of varying lengths for a variety of learning styles. It is a curriculum developed by CNA, Institute for Public Research, Safety and Security, and supported by BJA. It is developed after the Memphis Model Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) approach, with the expanded capability to be customizable to local community resources and needs.

Rick Skilliter requested information on CIT curriculum availability. BJA NTTAC provided information on the draft CIT curriculum in development at BJA and provided contact information for Police Research Associates, Inc., who are planning CIT trainings for the upcoming year.

The Bureau of Justice Assistance requested updates to the Crisis Intervention Training (CIT) curriculum, developed under a previous BJA NTTAC engagement. CNA was selected to continue this work, through surveys of national CIT programs, reviews by subject matters experts, and a pilot training. The pilot training occurred in December 2017, and CNA used that pilot to continue making revisions and updates to the curriculum materials. A final version of the CIT curriculum was delivered to BJA in April 2018.

Convening national and local practitioner experts in the Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) model to discuss how Pay for Success (PFS) financing might be applied to CIT. This fourth and final meeting will be conducted virtually on August 7th, and will seek learning community participants' feedback on an initial draft of the final white paper. This white paper will be written for practitioners and discuss considerations for applying PFS financing to CIT. Feedback from this meeting will be used to fine-tune the final deliverable for this project objective.

Convening national and local practitioner experts in the Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) model to discuss how Pay for Success (PFS) financing might be applied to CIT. This third meeting will be conducted virtually on July 21st, and will focus on exploring remaining issues in the question of how PFS might be applied to CIT, including variation between rural and urban jurisdictions; as well as implementation issues and fidelity. This meeting is the third of four learning community convenings that will inform a practitioner-focused white paper on this topic.

This second meeting was conducted virtually on July 5th, and focused on identifying specific points at which PFS could be applied in the process of building a CIT program. This meeting was the second of four learning community convenings that will inform a practitioner-focused white paper on this topic.

This initial meeting was conducted in-person in conjunction with the Urban Institute's larger PFS Symposium. The three hour meeting, held on June 22nd, focused on reaching a common understanding of what PFS and CIT are and discussing issues related to implementation quality, measurement & performance, funding, and other relevant topics.
