The Office of Community Oriented Policing Services—with support from the Bureau of Justice Assistance—released the brief “Officer Safety and Wellness (OSW) Group Meeting Summary: Promoting Positive Coping Strategies in Law Enforcement—Emerging Issues and Recommendations.”

This webinar will highlight the experiences, efforts, and needs of first responder agencies relative to exposure to traumatic stressors specific to the opioid crisis.

Using information gathered from interviews with mid- to high-level supervisors from several local law enforcement agencies, as well as fire department and emergency medical services staff, speakers will discuss insights into the awareness of this work’s impact on first responders, the measures agencies have taken to minimize negative effects on staff, and products or tools needed to advance these efforts.

The Bureau of Justice Assistance is seeking applications for their Fiscal Year (FY) 2020 National Community Courts Site-based and Training and Technical Assistance Initiative, which provides support to state, local, and tribal court jurisdictions to support the creation of effective responses to low-level, non-violent offenses.

This webinar will provide a brief overview of the Maricopa County, Arizona Attorney’s Office (MCAO) Sexual Assault Kit Initiative (SAKI) project and how it used funding to provide advanced/additional DNA testing to the 25 police agencies within its prosecutorial jurisdiction. SAKI Site Coordinator Cesar Tirado will discuss the procurement process used to identify vendor labs, how requesting police agencies obtain funds, and some of the unique challenges encountered as part of this funding opportunity.  

The Bureau of Justice Assistance is seeking applications for its FY 2020 Northern and Middle States Rural Law Enforcement Training and Technical Assistance Grant Program. This program, which supports smaller, rural, and tribal law enforcement agencies in northern and middle states, will provide training and technical assistance (TTA) to help reduce violent crimes, including drug-related crimes and human trafficking.

The Bureau of Justice Assistance is seeking applications for its Fiscal Year 2020 Upholding the Rule of Law and Preventing Wrongful Convictions (ROL/WCR) Program. To prioritize the integrity of the criminal justice system, the ROL/WCR program will support entities in reviewing wrongful conviction cases for individuals they represent who claim their innocence.
