Our Native communities suffer from high rates of fatherlessness. One of the contributing factors to fatherlessness is addiction. Join this ask the expert session for a facilitated discussion and open forum with subject matter experts who will answer your practical questions regarding with fathers struggling with addiction and how fatherhood programming can provide support for recovery. Prior to the session, we will gather feedback from you about what you would like to learn about the topic from the experts.

Upon BJA’s request, Humberto Cardounel and Joseph Milek from the NRTAC team attended BJA’s Violent Crime Reduction Summit in Indianapolis, Indiana. Additionally, an Indianapolis Crime Guns Task Force (ICGTF) site tour was arranged so Mr. Cardounel and Mr. Milek could see a high-functioning regional CGIC.

The IACP invited the National Policing Institute (NPI) to present at the IACP 2023 Annual Conference held from October 14-17 in San Diego, California. This four-day event featured training, networking opportunities, and educational workshops on various topics important to law enforcement. The NPI was invited to present on the 4th day. Ms. Tammy Brown from the BJA moderated a panel consisting of four subject matter experts. Ms. Kerry Yerico from the NPI, Lt. Eric Vogelpohl from Cincinnati Police Department, Sgt. Joshua May from Chattanooga Police Department and Sgt.

NAICJA staff, Johanna Farmer and Mary Rodriguez, submitted a presentation proposal that was selected for the 2023 Legal Symposium. NAICJA will share their work on the policy project regarding collateral consequences and their inherent role in preventing access to housing in Indian Country.
