Priority Area 1?Update: CSG Justice Center staff continued analyzing domestic violence incidents from the Kentucky State Police?s compilation of electronic JC-3 forms, merging files to identify the nature of each incident as either intimate partner violence or other family violence. A sizable amount of demographic data was found to be missing from the JC-3 forms, and staff are investigating whether to impute the missing data so that an analysis of trends by race and gender can be conducted. Additionally, the research staff continued working with data provided by the DOC.

Law enforcement often respond to youth experiencing behavioral health crises as first responders to provide connections to emergency care. Unfortunately, law enforcement-only responses to youth in crisis can result in higher risk of involvement in the juvenile justice system and traumatization. Though trainings for law enforcement agencies on behavioral health crisis responses and trauma-informed care are increasing, many of them are not properly trained or do not have the resources available to effectively respond to the needs of youth in crisis.
