Fremont County Treatment Court requested assistance in engaging Native American women to increase participation in the treatment court program in efforts to reduce absconding. Virtual technical assistance was provided with resources shared.
NW3C provides TA services to assist agencies with various resource needs in areas such as adjudication, counter-terrorism, crime prevention, justice information-sharing, law enforcement, tribal justice, and capacity-building, just to name a few. In so doing, NW3C supports TA at various levels of time, resources, and intensity including:
• Assistance with strategic planning
• Curriculum development
• Customized technical assistance from subject matter experts
• Data analysis
• Facilitation of advisory group meetings
On April 5, 2022 TLPI staff Kelly Stoner gave a presentation on the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) 2022 and how it can affect law enforcement in Indian country.
On May 9, 2022 TLPI staff Kelly Stoner, in conjunction with NCAI, gave a virtual verbal presentation comparing VAWA 2013 and VAWA 2022 at the National Indian Health Board National Tribal Public Health Summit the workshop is entitled "Protecting Native Women: Tribal Provisions in the 2022 Violence Against Women Act Reauthorization."
On March 22, 2022 TLPI staff Kelly Stoner gave a verbal presentation on the Inter-Tribal Technical Assistance Working Group (ITWG) and the TA resources that TLPI can provide to tribes interested in and preparing to exercise Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) 2022.
On June 8, 2022 TLPI staff Kelly Stoner presented a workshop on "Full Faith & Credit and Enforcement of Tribal Protection Orders." The presentation will underscore the importance of drafting clear and concise findings and tailoring remedies to meet the need of each victim. It will discuss the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) Full Faith and Credit for protection orders, the federal definition of a protection order.
Kelly Stoner and Chia Halpern provided revisions, comments and suggestions to the Quapaw Tribe regarding their tribal code and constitution as the tribe prepares to implement VAWA Special Tribal Criminal Jurisdiction.
July 7, 2022- held a phone call with Chief Cathy Madalone from the California Women Leaders in Law Enforcement (WLLE) to discuss what VALOR could provide to the organization. Attempted to speak at their conference, but they were full. Will attempt for a booth.
