The Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA) requested a subject matter expert to develop a publication summarizing the themes and findings of the January 2017 Justice Reinvestment Strategy Session forum. Alison Shames was selected to fulfill the request and provided support by attending the forum; conducting follow up interviews with BJA staff, session attendees, and other stakeholders; and drafting and delivering the report to BJA . The technical assistance commenced in January 2017 with Shames conducting pre-forum research and attending the forum on January 12 in Washington, D.C.

The Lane County Department of Parole & Probation requested assistance to revise its policies and procedures to align with their systems change to incorporate evidence-based practices (EBPs) into every aspect of their work with clients. The Carey Group was selected to fulfill the request and provided review, editing, and layout of the nine evidence-based policies. The Carey Group delivered the final revised policies to Lane County in January 2017.

The Milwaukee Local JRI site requested assistance in refreshing their sequential intercepts model, identifying a mental health screening tool, and updating their behavioral matrix to include mental health. BJA NTTAC referred the request to the Council of State Governments.

Parole & Probation (P&P) in Lane County, Oregon is requesting technical assistance to revise its Policies and Procedures to align with their systems change to incorporate evidence-based practices (EBPs) into every aspect of their work with their clients. In Oregon, counties provide supervision and services for offenders who have committed felonies and are returning from imprisonment in state Department of Corrections facilities or are sentenced directly to probation.

The TA has several purposes: review updated jail data analysis and prepare to discuss findings with the JRI Policy Team; review design of new jail information system and its capacity to generate reports for the Policy Team on population drivers and costs; assist Cindy McCoy and Judge Spitzer with organizing the work of two, new areas of policy exploration (jail length of stay and mental health treatment and service needs for justice involved individuals in the County), including developing ad hoc wok groups.
