The COPS Office Announces $14 Million in Grant Funds to Combat Methamphetamine and Heroin

On Tuesday, March 29, the Department of Justice (DOJ) Office of Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS) announced that $14 million will be available in grant funding in order to address and reduce violent crime through programs focused on methamphetamine use and production, and the distribution of heroin and other opioids.

The Baltimore Police Department would receive onsite and off-site training and technical assistance to help them develop a FY'16 grant strategy; identify new FY'16 public and private grant opportunities; and provide coaching/advice re. approaches for future grant submissions.

On 5/15/2014 NCJA along with ATJ and NLADA hosted Reframing Public Defense, a webinar focused on helping the public defense community improve there competitiveness for state and federal grant funds. Speakers spoke about the need to change how PD speaks about what they do, in addition speakers focused on how PD can partner with other organizations with overlapping missions. This webinar built off of the 2013 Strengthening Public Defense: Understanding State and Federal Resources webinar. The webinar had 237 registrants and 117 attendees.
