CSG Justice Center staff conducted a site visit to New Mexico to officially launch the Improving Outcomes for Youth Initiative. During the site visit, a press conference was held with Secretary Jacobson and Justice Vigiil, the statewide task force met held its first meeting, and CSG staff conducted focus groups with juvenile justice stakeholders.

CSG Justice Center staff, in partnership with the Center for Juvenile Justice Reform (CJJR) and the National Youth & Screening Assessment Partners (NYSAP) conducted a site visit to Iowa as part of the Division of Criminal and Juvenile Justice Planning’s FY16 Smart on Juvenile Justice Statewide Planning grant to accomplish the following:
1. Ensure the core leadership team is clear on the Smart on JJ grant initiative and overall planning process, as well as expectations and priorities for the site visit and over the course of the grant.

The Urban Institute serves as the main point of contact for the Justice Reinvestment Initiative for potential sites. In that role, Urban monitors a JRI email address, through which it fields questions from potential JRI sites. Interested groups may also reach out via phone. Urban also responds to media inquiries and general questions from academics and practitioners about JRI.

Steering committee members participated in a special call to discuss state letters of interest to participate in JRI. Members discussed Phase II requests from Arkansas and Georgia and Phase I requests from Missouri and South Carolina.

Steering committee members participated in a call to discuss Phase I updates for Montana, North Dakota, Oklahoma, and Louisiana and Phase II letters of interest for North Dakota. Members also discussed juvenile justice updates in seven states.

The intent of this solicitation is to provide funds for communications activities (dialogue, education, and mobilization) and resource development efforts of national or regional scope impacting sexual abuse in confinement and or the implementation and sustainability of the Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA) standards. Funded deliverable types include convenings or sponsored collaboration, publications, or other outreach activities. Applications will be accepted and reviewed on a rolling basis until the funds are expended.
