The coaches and the site are in the same city so it made sense to visit to talk through and work on the implementation plan. During the site visit the coaches had a tour of the facility in addition to working on the implementation plan and developing next steps.
Assisted the site in developing their implementation plan, developed a tracking form for their match materials, assisted in modifying plans in response to COVID-19 since in-person trainings are not currently allowed.
CSG Justice Center staff held a site visit at the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) Law Enforcement-Mental Health Learning Site. Representatives from the Houston Police Department learning site also attended. During this site visit, CSG Justice Center staff observed and discussed Mental Health Intervention Training, SMART co-response teams, data collection and analysis, Senior Lead Officer Program, CAMP case management teams, and other components of LAPD's initiative.
CSG?Justice Center staff held a site visit with the FY18 JMHCP?Lake County Board of County Commissioners project team. This included representatives from LifeStream Behavioral Health, Clermont Police Department, Groveland Police Department, and Lake County Sheriff's Office. On the first day, participants observed and discussed the existing mobile crisis response program where a mental health professional is embedded in Clermont Police Department.
The Council of State Governments Justice Center conducted a site visit to Los Angeles as part of the Economic and Workforce Development Department's FY17 SCA Implementing County and Statewide Plans to Improve Outcomes for Youth in the Juvenile Justice System grant to accomplish the following: (1) Conduct a training on meeting specific needs of a juvenile justice population. CSG Justice Center staff conducted a training for Youth Source Center staff working on this project on research and evidence based principles in addressing the needs of juvenile justice involved youth.
CSG Justice Center staff presented to the statewide convening of assistant chiefs of probation to provide them with the foundational research behind a graduated response policy and why one is being implemented.?CSG staff also answered questions and provided support around roll out and implementation of the policy.
CSG Justice Center staff traveled to Anchorage to present launch presentation to system stakeholders and hold key focus groups.
CSG Justice Center staff met with Illinois DJJ and Cook juvenile probation staff to facilitate planning for supporting the grant. As the grant targets youth returning to Cook county it is imperative that DJJ and cook county probation have policies and practices in place to ensure effective sharing of ideas, data and case plans.
The Illinois Department of Juvenile Justice, Treatment Unit Administrator, Diana Kucera, has identified that agency medical and mental health staff are in need of training to meet PREA Standard 115.35 " Specialized training: medical and mental health". Ms. Kucera has requested an eight-hour training for these staff as well as a training-for-trainers to be able to provide future trainings, as needed, at each of Illinois DJJ facilities.
CSG Justice Center staff held the fourth task force?meeting for?the Improving Outcomes for Youth Initiative?to review policy options developed by the 4 working groups (Diversion, Detention, Courts/Probation, and Placement) and voted on the policy options to move forward with in legislation.?
