Just a mile away from the Pottawattamie County Sheriffs Office in Council Bluffs, Iowa, a woman is shot during a nighttime stroll in a public park. It is the latest in a bizarre series of events, three years into a five-year missing persons investigation. Closing the case will take years of work, dozens of search warrants, and two weeks of testimony. This presentation will provide a case study of the investigation and prosecution of a no-body homicide.

O.J. Simpson was charged and acquitted with murdering two persons in a widely televised, 9-month jury trial, following a violent attack in June 1994. He was then found liable for their wrongful death in a later civil trail. This presentation will first provide an overview of the trial evidence and identify investigative challenges with this case. Then the presenter, an experienced former federal prosecutor who was not involved in the trials, will describe the present and emerging high technology and digital evidence that might be available if the same crime happened in 2023.

This webinar will show how parallel investigation techniques commence with a review of tactics and strategies that can be introduced in related fraud enquires. The importance protecting the tradecraft deployed and the use of open and closed source research will be discussed to include comparable techniques used in covert sensitive investigations. Money laundering utilizing virtual, or cryptocurrency will be featured to examine current tradecraft. Additionally, this presentation will include discussion of the impact on not-for-profits as well as a look at mortgage fraud.

This course provides fundamental knowledge on financial investigation and data analysis. The investigation portion of the course will cover common consumer scams, how to identify suspects and their financial accounts and best processes for obtaining suspects records. The analysis portion of the course will cover the process of acquiring data, discuss methods for entering data, and provide strategies for finding patterns in data sets.

Criminal, terror, and other types of illicit networks all need revenue streams to survive. This involves control of financial flows from the point of revenue generation through goal accomplishment. To some extent, many of these networks will engage in the international money movement processes maintained by financial institutions around the world in order to move the money in an efficient and secure manner. This presentation will describe the legitimate processes used by illicit networks to move money through financial systems.
