Vera provided implementation TTA to the North Carolina DOC (NCDPS) in the following ways:
5/1 – Vera exchanged emails with NCDPS establishing new dates for our site visit (our visit was postponed due to death of a corrections officer in late April).
5/10 – Vera exchanged emails with NCDPS about the site visit and our proposed itinerary and agenda.
5/22 – Vera exchanged emails with NCDPS about final details of the site visit (itinerary, meeting participants, facility tours, etc.)
5/24 – Vera exchanged emails with NCDPS in preparation for our site visit, outlining topics we’d like to be sure to discuss with DPS staff while there.
5/24 – Vera exchanged emails with NCDPS about whether Director Lassiter will be able to attend the Safe Alternatives to Segregation Initiative Advisory Council meeting in July.
5/25 – Vera exchanged emails with NCDPS asking for clarification and more information on the trainings NCDPS is already implementing, in order to inform our information-gathering on trainings and other strategies, which we will share with them on the site visit.
5/30–6/2 – First implementation site visit. We had meetings with NCDPS leadership at headquarters in Raleigh, visited Central Prison (in particular to see and speak with staff about the Therapeutic Diversion Unit there), visited Marion Correctional Institution (in particular to see and speak with staff about the Rehabilitative Diversion Unit program there), and visited Foothills Correctional Institution (in particular to see and speak with staff about the Youthful Offender Program).

By submitting this application to BJA NTTAC, I understand that upon approval of this application for TTA, the requestor agrees to keep BJA NTTAC informed of any circumstances that may impact the delivery of the TTA, including changes in the date of the event, event cancellation, or difficulties communicating with the assigned TTA provider.
