How do you anticipate that the requested assistance will address the problems?
This assistance will enable ILEA staff to gather evaluation data to modify and further develop the Police and Family Conference model that has been used in north Texas since 2006. By demonstrating this project in three areas outside of Texas we believe we will determine if the model in use has viability at a national level. Where we note challenges from the evaluation data, we will modify the curriculum to improve the program.
Start-up funds will enable ILEA to explore this initiative to promote this concept on a national level.

Additional Info

Sent an e-mail on 9/11/12 asking for a day and time this week to go over assessment questions. Had assessment call on 9.21.12; working on assessment. Sent to BJA on 9.26.12. Sent e-mail to Mr. Moore on 10.29.12 requesting a time to set up a call with policy advisers from BJA. Follow up e-mail sent to Mr. Moore on 11.1.12 requesting to set up a call with BJA. Call scheduled for 11.8.12. Held call with Pam Cammarata and others from BJA where they asked a number of questions in regard to Mr. Moore and his program. On 11.15.12 I received forwarded e-mail stating that BJA was interested in funding application if Mr. Moore were willing to make some changes to his program. However, Angela needed to get final OK from Becky before proceeding. 11.30.12 E-mail to Angela regarding status of application. Angela responded that it was denied by the Governance Board, but that Pam Cammarata was appealing to Denise O'Donnell. 12.14.12 received e-mail from Mr. Moore asking for status of request. Responded on 12.17.12 and stated that there was no information yet and that he probably wouldn't know anything until after the first of the year.

They were founded in 1947 as an educational outreach for attorneys to teach the rule of law. In 1957 they engaged in police education for supervisors, administrators and trainers. In 1992 the center for law enforcement ethics was established. During the past seven years they have recognized the importance of working with police officers and their families to strengthen a relationship that can often be stressful. Following this step, ILEA will turn this curriculum into a train-the-trainer program where they bring training supervisors from police departments around the country to their facility to teach them how to implement this curriculum in their police departments.
