To offer training and support to these grantees on a national level, BJA, with the support of its technical assistance provider, The Council of State Governments Justice Center (CSGJC), will convene a Justice and Mental Health Collaboration Program (JMHCP) and Connect and Protect (C&P) Grantee Virtual Symposium in August 2024. This three-day event will bring together state, local, and tribal nation leaders, nonprofit service providers, law enforcement, court, corrections, community supervision, and behavioral health professionals to discuss best practices and strategies for crisis response, cross-system collaboration across the justice system, treatment, and recovery support services for those with behavioral health needs. It will feature a combination of plenary sessions as well as breakout group sessions led by national subject matter experts, learning sites, and former and current grant recipients on key topics such as making 911/988 data work for your program, best practices in pretrial and court-based diversion, and assessing housing needs and sustaining housing partnerships. The event will also provide structured networking and peer learning opportunities for JMHCP and Connect and Protect grantees.
