The Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ) Safe Prisons Program is having a retreat September 24-26, 2024 at the Carolina Creek Christian Camp. The retreat will be for 210 people including Safe Prisons Program (SPP) and Security Threat Group (STG) staff from each of the agency?s units. SPP and STG staff are back-ups for one another and TDCJ determined it to be beneficial for them to come together for this multi-day event
TDCJ has requested Just Detention International (JDI) make a three-hour presentation to the group on Thursday, September 26, 2024. This is the second time JDI has been invited to present to SPP staff. Last year JDI provided an overview of trauma and staff coping skills. This year, with an expanded audience and new SPP staff, JDI has been asked to split the time ? first, focusing on trauma and staff coping skills. After a break, JDI will deep deeper into the impacts of trauma, how to interact with people in a trauma-informed manner, including during the intake risk assessment.
