PREA Standard 115.21(d) requires agencies to ?attempt to make available to the victim a victim advocate from a rape crisis center. If a rape crisis center is not available to provide victim advocate services, the agency shall make available to provide these services a qualified staff member from a community-based organization, or a qualified agency staff member.? There has been a concerted effort to educate both corrections and advocates about the importance of partnering to provide services to incarcerated survivors. By and large this effort has been a success, and across the nation there are MOUs or other agreements in place to provide confidential support services, at least by phone and mail. Unfortunately, gaps in services remain, requiring the necessity for corrections agencies to rely on a qualified staff support person (QSSP) to serve in this capacity. To assist the field, the PREA Resource Center (PRC) asked our partner organization Just Detention International (JDI) to develop content for this 12-module course. It is anticipated that the training will be shorter than the 40-hour training for community-based victim advocates given that the QSSP will serve in a more limited capacity as compared to community-based victim advocates. JDI have drafted 9 of the 12 modules and we anticipate this deliverable to be made available to the public in 2025.
