A few members from NCJA's Board of Directors mentioned to NCJA's Center for Justice Planning that one challenge SAAs consistently encounter is how best to relay who the SAA is, what they do, and ultimately, the story of the SAA. They requested TTA help for this issue. NCJA staff created a committee composed of four interested board members. The committee elected to create a survey to determine whether all SAAs have similar communications related needs. NCJA staff created a communications needs survey that asked SAAs how much capacity they have, the ways in which they interact with various partners and stakeholders and what they wish various partners knew about the role of the SAA that they current do not know. The survey received 31 responses and will be used to guide the final output for this committee, which will be a communications toolkit for SAAs. The committee has met three times on this project.
