The City of Akron Police Department requests T3 – Tact, Tactics, and Trust™ training in order to host leadership from surrounding police departments to create a joint effort to improve interaction, communication, and understanding between local police departments and the public. T3™ is the only police training program that simultaneously addresses the perceptual, cognitive, and behavioral dimensions of social interaction. It integrates the latest scientific research on managing social encounters with validated training techniques. The training will last for a half day (four hours) and will not have more than 40 participants. Participants will mainly consist of chief executive and command-level staff including, but not limited to, personnel from the Akron Ohio Police Department senior staff, Summit County Sheriff Department senior staff, Chief Executives or representatives of other Summit County Ohio police agencies, representatives of the Ohio Office of Criminal Justice Services, representative of Ohio Police Officers Training Academy, Local NAACP President or representative, members of City Council.

Task 1: Enhance officers’ perceptual, cognitive, and behavioral capacities to create positive outcomes in their police interactions with the community.
Task 2: Improve officers’ ability to build rapport and trust with citizens in diverse social and cultural contexts under stressful and dangerous conditions.
Task 3: Increase officers’ ability to anticipate and rapidly address sources of conflict, danger, mistrust, and error in social encounters.
Task 4: Increase officers’ skills at each stage of the social engagement cycle.
Please submit a signed letter of support from your agency’s executive or other senior staff member. The letter can be emailed to or uploaded with this request. The letter should be submitted on official letterhead and include the following information:
- General information regarding the request for TTA services, i.e., the who, what, where, when, and why.
- The organizational and/or community needs specific to the request for TTA services.
- The benefits or anticipated outcomes from the receipt of TTA services.
By submitting this application to BJA NTTAC, I understand that upon approval of this application for TTA, the requestor agrees to keep BJA NTTAC informed of any circumstances that may impact the delivery of the TTA, including changes in the date of the event, event cancellation, or difficulties communicating with the assigned TTA provider.
