Work with a consultant to provide the following support:
-Review existing practices and continuum of programs/interventions in place.
-Plan and deliver baseline educational event around evidence-based practice in prosecution, sentencing, and supervision of justice-involved individuals with substance abuse issues.
-Guide stakeholders, through an onsite focus group, in strategizing, developing, and implementing an evidence-based system practice or program.
-Assist agency and stakeholders in designing outcomes to measure effectiveness of system practice or program.
Our initiative seeks to identify and implement a system practice or program that expedites access to assessment and treatment interventions for individuals charged with a criminal offense involving substance use. Ideally this practice or program would offer increased incentive to individuals to effectively engage via dismissal of charges upon successful completion. In order to do that, we need to examine the practices and continuum of related programs/interventions currently in place. We need to better understand what parts of the system are working or not working, and what we need to stop, start or continue.
6W Community Corrections provides adult and juvenile pre and post-sentence community supervision services to four counties: Chippewa, Lac qui Parle, Swift and Yellow Medicine. Our Criminal Justice (CJUS) system stakeholders include 3 Judges, 6 prosecutors, 4 public defense attorneys, 4 Sheriff's Departments and jail facilities, and 6 city police departments. Justice involved individuals supervised by our agency have access to multiple substance use disorder treatment providers via the direct access model.
Due to the multi-jurisdictional nature of our CJUS system, we require assistance coordinating this effort as well as guidance in strategizing, developing, and implementing an option or model that is also evidence-based.
In order to foster buy-in from the key CJUS stakeholders, we would like to start this initiative by providing baseline education around evidence-based practices in prosecution, sentencing, and supervision of justice-involved individuals with substance abuse issues, as well as guided strategic discussion among stakeholders to make recommendations for system improvements.
