As noted previously, PCE conducted a productive site visit last December. The results of the report are forthcoming. We understand from discussions with PCE recommendations relate to restructuring, overhauling our intake system, and rebalancing our office-wide workload responsibilities. While we understand these recommendations in concept, help from PCE to implement these recommendations is requested.
As a follow up to the prior work of PCE, the SAO requests additional assistance from PCE in implementing its recommended changes. PCE recommended restructuring of our felony attorney divisions. Our current structure mirrors our court structure and has for many years. The SAO needs assistance in developing an action plan or implementation plan for structural change. We need guidance in gathering support from the Court, and internally, for these proposed changes and how to implement the changes suggested. Similarly, PCE recommended an overhaul of our case intake system. Doing so correctly requires the right person to oversee the project. We need assistance in soliciting and selecting the right personnel for the project and a plan for what we are trying to accomplish in reducing the number of steps or stages a file must travel in order to be received by an attorney for a filing decision. What best practices are in order for intake? Finally, PCE identified workload inequities and inefficiencies. We continue to work on a master document that designates job tasks and roles for our staff from attorneys to clerical support. Currently, we understand from PCE's work our attorneys are undertaking too many administrative or otherwise clerical tasks.
