We are requesting support to train approximately 132 detectives with iKat Limited. Through the course of the training, iKat will help us identify a cadre of BPD trainers that will go through skills development with iKat so we are able to have a sustainable training program for the future.
The Baltimore Police Department lacks sufficient interview training capabilities for our detectives, which impacts our ability to conduct thorough criminal investigations and develop accurate information. Oftentimes, we sent our detectives to training outside the agency in sporadic a nature and we don't send all our detectives to training. The outside training that detectives attended was geared towards the accusatory style of interviewing, and primarily sent detectives to Reid. The field of interviewing witnesses, victims, and suspects has shifted from the accusatory style to one that builds a rapport with the interviewee from the foundation of respect. The interviewing training is evidence-based and supported by research.
