"The Field Training Program (FTP) has been finding ways to reinforce the program's strengths and to improve areas that have been challenging. This work will help the program reach its goals that are set our for trainees and enhance the benefits that are received by participating host facilities. The FTP's goals are to strengthen trainees' PREA auditing skills, increase trainees' experience with the PREA auditing process and methodology, enhance trainees' understanding of the PREA standards, and provide trainees with an opportunity to become familiar with and use the audit tools and other documents.

In addition, the benefits received by host facilities participating in PREA training audits include the following: guidance and support from certified PREA auditors throughout the entire training audit; access to PREA subject matter experts to address implementation challenges; assistance, tools, and resources to prepare for a PREA compliance audit; familiarity for staff with the PREA compliance audit process; a written assessment with findings of compliance and corrective action recommendations on 18 PREA standards pre-selected by the PRC as the most challenging for many facilities undergoing an audit; and free targeted training and technical assistance at the conclusion of the program to further enhance and sustain PREA implementation."

The host facility application was created and sent out in mid June of 2022 to solicit applications for our 2023-2024 FTP cycle. If selected, host facilities act as sites for auditor trainees to hone their auditing skills to become successful PREA auditors. The host facilities were selected between February and April of 2023, and were notified of their acceptance or denial within those months.

Compiled and distributed FTP materials to PMO in February 2024, including Onsite Materials and List, Post-Onsite Materials and List, Pre-Onsite Materials and List, Pre-FTP & Project Kickoff (PKO) Materials and List, and FTP Host Facility and Assessment Materials and List.

Milestone Title
Revised Assignment Evaluation
Milestone Description

In previous training audit cycles of the Field Training Program, we had a process for keeping track of auditor trainees' assignment completion. We are moving from the previous process to building the assignment tracker into Salesforce so that the faculty can input the information into that system instead of reporting to the administrator.

Survey for impact of COVID 19
Milestone Description

The Field Training Program (FTP) team created a survey, regarding the impact of COVID-19, that was sent to the nine host facilities from the 2020-2021 training audit cycle. The FTP team's priorities are to provide a training opportunity that is safe, of the highest quality, and preserves the ability for the selected facilities to host a training audit. At the time, the National PREA Resource Center was still exploring the options for when to deliver the auditor training that is held prior to the training audits. To assist us in making that decision, we asked the host facilities to answer questions about their anticipated availability for other dates to host the training audit if needed.

FTP Logic Model
Milestone Description

In conjunction with the monitoring and evaluation team, the Field Training Program (FTP) team worked to provide information to create a logic model. The FTP logic model illustrates how the FTP is intended to work; it describes a sequence of resources/inputs and activities that are expected to lead to results the program is trying to achieve outputs and outcomes. The logic model will be fundamental for identifying aspects of the FTP that are most critical for tracking and reporting progress of Auditor Trainees and collecting the data that will be needed to monitor and make continual improvements to the FTP.

Host Facility Pre-onsite Questionnaire
Milestone Description

This questionnaire informs the PRC’s FTP team on how to best offer support to the host facility's PREA team or committee as they prepare proof documentation for the Pre-Audit Questionnaire (PAQ). Because most of the PREA Standards require some form of documentation to verify the facility’s compliance, the FTP audit team will need to review a large number and variety of documents during the pre-onsite phase. The response to the questions asked will help the FTP team understand the availability and ease of access to some of the critical pieces of documentation.
