We would like to receive training from the National Resource Center on Justice Involved Women on gender specific case management. The Justice Grants Administration (JGA) proposes piloting a case management program inside of the Central Treatment Facility (CTF), beginning October, 2013, for women currently incarcerated for misdemeanor sentences with a minimum of 30 days in jail. The goal of the program is to reduce recidivism among women inmates, by providing case management and discharge planning. Case management has been shown to help facilitate a smooth transition back into the community upon release from institutions nationwide. We are requesting assistance in developing a gender specific risk and needs assessment. Currently women are assessed in the men’s jail, and then transferred to the CTF, we believe that our case managers would be equipped to help them with discharge planning by using a gender based model.Currently the tool cost 11,000 but if we receive training through the agency we can receive the tool and scoring free of charge.

How do you anticipate that the requested assistance will address the problems?
The primary goal if selected to receive assistance is the reduction in recidivism in women leaving the Correctional Treatment Facility to below 22%. Currently, women are in and out of the facility up to 5 times. We believe that switching to a gender specific assessment will allow case managers to obtain a better view of consumers’ needs once released from the CTF and in turn bring about a reduction in recidivism among the inmate population.
