Description of the Problem

We have experienced a severe retention problem over the last year. We believe this is for several reasons. Officers do not feel valued due to a lack of strong and attentive leadership which is due to a lack of leadership training- at all ranks. We have not had the opportunity to provide the level of training our officers deserve due to budget restraints which often encourages them to seek employment elsewhere- often smaller agencies with more training opportunities. Retention, attrition due to lack of retention and leadership concerns all impact morale in a very negative way. We are beginning to improve the culture of our agency and are trying to do so through training-specifically leadership training at the lowest ranks.

How do you anticipate that the requested assistance will address the problems?
Command Presence puts on a 'Leading Without Rank' course which was hosted in our region several years ago. The attendees are still talking about what they learned and gained from the course. However, as it was regional, we were only able to send a select number of our officers. We believe that bringing the training specifically to our agency will allow us the opportunity to provide valuable, quality leadership training to our officers to prepare them to become leaders or to demonstrate leadership qualities as a line officer.
