On December 19, 2020, Impact Justice convened its staff, key personnel from partners Just Detention International and The Moss Group, and BJA policy and programs leadership to review the immediate steps to launch technical assistance to the BJA PREA grantees, and to discuss strategic considerations.
Coaches for all grantees were assigned on November 17, 2020. Grantees and coaches were notified within the same two days.
In August 2020, the PRC formally launched the Online Audit System Paper Audit Reporting Portal. The OAS Paper Audit Reporting Portal provides a secure way for those auditors who conduct their PREA audits using the paper audit instrument to upload their audit report, complete the post-audit reporting information, and upload the evidence relied on to make compliance determinations.
During the past reporting period, 28 audits have been initiated in the Paper Audit Reporting Portal, 7 have been completed.
Conducted the Introductory Kick-off Webinar for the FY '20 Supplemental grantees for the Site-based awards to give an overview of the process, introduce coaches, and discuss initial steps in the grant process. These steps include support letters and the development of implementation plans and budgets.
Due to delays with the ability to sign grants in the JustGrant system, grantees have not yet been able to complete their Implementation plans and budgets. Therefore no review of these has yet occurred.
Site-based Grantees from the FY'20 fiscal year were awarded effective 10/1/2020. After getting their initial kick-off information and overview, sites work with their assigned coaches, IJ partners VERA, The MOSS Group and JDI to develop their Implementation plans and budgets based on their awards. Once submitted those are reviewed by PRC staff assigned to the Site-based award and then reviewed by PMO for ultimate approval. All sites that have submitted Implementation plans during this period were reviewed. The FY'20 sites that have not yet submitted their implementation plans are Somerset, Tippacanoe County, Mississippi Department of Corrections, Puerto Rico, and Broward County. All others have been submitted and approved by the PMO.
