The Investigation and Prosecution of Gang-Related Crimes: An Introduction

This webinar will serve as a primer for basic gang investigation and prosecution. It will focus on different types of gangs, the importance of documenting gang members and gangs, and the tools prosecutors need and have in order to be successful in court.

During this webinar, presenters will discuss:

  • How to determine if a case is gang-related;
  • What evidence a prosecutor needs for a gang prosecution; and
  • Benefits of prosecuting a case as a gang crime

Presenters:

Will Babb is an Arizona native who graduated from Arizona State University (ASU) with bachelor’s degrees in Business Management and Human Communication from the Barrett Honors College. He returned to Arizona State University for law school where he was the editor-in-chief of the Entertainment and Sports Law Journal. Upon graduation, Will became a deputy county attorney for the Maricopa County, Arizona Attorney’s office where he has gained significant trial experience and has specialized in the prosecution of violent gang members. Will enjoys coaching youth sports, hiking, and supporting his ASU Sun Devils.
 

Mike Gingold is currently the bureau chief of the Gang Bureau at the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office. His legal career as a prosecutor began in 1996 when he joined the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office as a Deputy County Attorney after graduating from Santa Clara University Law School. Over the years, he has served in various units at the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office including the Vehicular Crimes Bureau, Gang/Repeat Offender Bureau, and Capital Litigation Bureau. After spending ten years in the Homicide/Capital Litigation Bureau, Mike was chosen to lead the Fraud and Identity Theft Enforcement Bureau. In October 2017, Mike was selected as the supervisor of the Gang Bureau.
