Center staff have formed a team of individuals to research all relevant articles pertaining to risk need responsivity tools and their use with tribal populations. Center staff have identified numerous articles for their literature review and have begun the process of reviewing and summarizing those articles.
During this reporting period, Center staff conducted a literature review to identify relevant studies and information regarding the use of risk-need responsivity tools with Native populations. The literature review examined more than 40 articles from the early 2000s to present. The articles targeted for the literature review either discussed the validation of risk-need responsivity tools with indigenous offenders or explored the use of actuarial tools with minority populations. The literature review considered articles and studies from the United States, Canada and Australia where research had been done on the use of risk-need responsivity tools with indigenous, or other minority populations.
Center staff analyzed numerous relevant studies and information gathered regarding the use of risk-need responsivity tools with Native populations. After analyzing the findings from reviewing each of these articles and studies, Center staff compiled their findings into a draft literature review. The draft literature review summarizes the relevant findings from the articles and studies reviewed and identifies themes and considerations that will help inform the development of a tribal RNR tool.
With the help of Advisory Council members, Center staff continued to identify and include research studies to the drafted literature review. Center staff have continued to revise, review, and edit the literature review during this period.
