Technical Assistance was targeted for the development of a survey to measure the ‘soft indicators’ related to pretrial success and failure and measure the impact of pretrial detention on stabilizing factors (e.g., residence, financial, employment, relationships (e.g., significant others, children).
In July, 2015, the pretrial bond supervision survey was administered and piloted by interns within court services with over 800 surveys completed. No modifications to the survey was made. Some preliminary analysis has been conducted that suggests a disruption in job and residence status for defendants who serve more than 3 days in pretrial detention in comparison to those who serve less than 3 days. Further analysis including the pretrial risk scores and risk levels of these defendants as well as demographics will be examined further as the sample size increases. The analysis for NAPSA was conducted and the presentation was facilitated in mid-August.
In October, 2015, the surveys to examine the impact of stabilizing factors on pretrial defendants who remain detained in the Johnson County jail were completed.
Throughout the end of 2015 and into early 2016, Alex Holsinger is analyzing the data to examine the impact of length of stay based on risk level using Johnson County's pretrial risk tool.

A pretrial bond supervision survey was completed and is being piloted by interns within Court Services. Few modifications were needed for this survey instrument and the official pilot of the survey began on October 22, 2014. The goal is to review the information again once 300 surveys are completed to see if any further modifications need to be made to the form.
Through July, 2015, the surveys continued with no modifications necessary; through the summer of 2015, well over 800 surveys were completed. Beginning in October, 2015, the surveys to examine the impact of stabilizing factors on pretrial defendants who remain detained in the Johnson County jail were completed this and analysis of the data began with hopes to examine the impact of length of stay based on risk level using Johnson County's pretrial risk tool.
