Description of the Problem

The next generation of police officers entering our community lack the fundamental communication skills required for successful interaction with the citizens of Lansing. Our community continues to face not only violent offenders, but we are seeing an increase in those who are in a mental crisis state. We must continue to educate, teach, and coach our officers to treat every human being with dignity and respect. If we can do this through training, we increase the likelihood of a peaceful resolution to each contact.
